Ron Paul: 95 Percent Of Black Men Are "Criminal"

Kos highlights a 1992 article from Ron Paul's self-published newsletter, The Ron Paul Political Report:

Indeed, it is shocking to consider the uniformity of opinion among blacks in this country. Opinion polls consistently show that only about 5% of blacks have sensible political opinions, i.e. support the free market, individual liberty, and the end of welfare and affirmative action.... Given the inefficiencies of what D.C. laughingly calls the "criminal justice system," I think we can safely assume that 95% of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal.

Both of my parents were born and raised in D.C. and said their families left the doors unlocked. Forward 50 or so years, and an uncle of mine was a police officer in D.C. when it routinely topped the murders per capita per annum chart. There were little kids running around with pagers, those kids being used by dealers so as to avoid arrest. I've been through the Tenderloin part of S.F., Oakland, and parts of Atlanta where folks openly shot up on the street, with others dead on the sidewalk, but I didn't see little kids dealing drugs, and the murder rate in those cities didn't rival the D.C. of the late 80s and early 90s.
While I doubt the veracity of Ron Paul's two decade old statement, why didn't you simply present the proper statistics to prove it factually incorrect? How hard is that for a reporter or journalist?
Why don't you do that, while we also consider that not all criminals are caught and convicted. Then we might have a better idea of how far off Mr. Paul really was. Then we could consider that if investigation & enforcement were not so indrectly apportioned, whether the apprehension & conviction rates between the races would even out.

Alternatively, if little kids were being used routinely in the work of drug trafficking in your own town, what would YOU think of the men of that town, if they let it persist? The isn't a question on the morality of drug usage so much as the morality of involving little kids in it. Do you want 7 year olds selling adult novelties & liquor on the street corners?

Perhaps Paul should have just said back in 1992, a majority of the men in D.C. are criminals, including all of those in government, the media, adding lobbyists and think tanks. But, since everybody knows that is true, it wouldn't provide you with a story appealing to your readers, since most of them come here for escape. Escape; something the murdered in D.C. never managed to obtain.
